Rules

Section I

Each team may sign 20 players to their SPO Rosters.

Team rosters must be submitted (to SPO) prior to the beginning of the season, however new players may be added to team rosters up to the date provided by the league.

Players must be on your teams 20 man SPO roster to qualify for the playoffs.

Teams having only 9 players may (without penalty) pick up one player from any team to complete their 10 player lineup.

Teams not having 9 of their own players (must be listed on their team roster) and after having been given a 15 minute grace period to field 9 players shall forfeit points for that game and must pay a full umpire fees ($30.00). “Note”, Teams may wish at that time to play an “Exhibition” game- utilizing the diamond time and umpire availability. **Note if both teams are short players, both teams will forfeit points and share in the umpire’s fees.

Late players may be added to the bottom of the batting order with no penalty. Players leaving the game due to injury will be removed from the batting order without penalty.

Players that have been ejected from the game by the umpire, will count as an out, each time his name comes up in the batting order (after his ejection).
Section II

It is the “home” team’s responsibility to call off a game due to rain, up to one hour before the game time. If they are unable to reach the visiting team contct person, or the umpires, or it is less than 1 hour before game time, both teams must go to the park prepared to play.

Once at the park the umpire will decide if the field is fit for play. If the umpire does not show up, the home team will decide. If the game is cancelled, the umpire will be paid traveling time ($5.00) only (if he/she shows up).

A team wishing to cancel a game (for any reason) must:

Reschedule their own game (by calling Jim DosSantos for diamond availability).

Advise the “other” team and the umpire assignor-giving them sufficient notice of cancellation

Advise the “other” team of the rescheduled game time and location. (Both teams involved must agree upon the rescheduled game’s time and location).

A call to the umpire assignor has to be made to arrange for an umpire to work the said rescheduled game.

If Teams are tied in the standings at the end of regular season play their placement shall be decided by the SPO tie breaking formula.
Section III (General)
-
No Alcoholic beverages on the grounds!
-
The “home” team is listed second on the schedule.
-
The home team playing the first game will line the diamond and set out the bases.
-
The home team in the final game of the evening will be responsible for putting the bases away
-
Distance between bases - 65 feet
-
Pitches rubber to plate - 50 feet
-
The “home” team will provide 1 new ball per game.
-
A “commitment” line will be placed 21 feet from home plate down the third baseline. Any player that comes in contact with or crosses this line MUST continue home.
-
No tagging is allowed at home plate or the runner is “safe”.
-
Runners must cross the home plate safety line with foot on the ground to be safe.

Any foul tips by a batter that is caught by the catcher regardless of the batted balls height is an out.
-
No sliding at home (or the runner is out).
-
Any intentional contact with the catcher or any player making a play on the runner at home will be called out.

The pitcher must throw an arc of no less than 6 feet and not more than 12 feet.

Pinch runners will be allowed. Anyone can be used as a pinch runner. Only 3 pinch runners may be used in a game.

Tie games will play 1 extra inning. If the tie is not broken after the extra inning, then the game will be recorded as a tie.

Each team must keep an accurate scorebook listing players “last” name first and initial.

Home Runs –Teams are allowed a total of +3 difference in home runs per game.

All other rules not referred to are as SPO play. (Slow-pitch Ontario).

The “home” team is responsible for calling in the score of the game to the league statistician. (as listed on cover page).

Games “must” start on time. Teams are required to be ready to play at the times listed on the schedule. All games are to be approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes in length. No new innings will start after 1 hour and 10 minutes of play. All innings started must be completed.

Under no circumstances the league will tolerate any misconduct such as excessive physical or verbal abuse against any players or umpires. (Zero tolerance). These actions will result in a game misconduct(first offense) and 1 year suspension from league (second offense).

Any league decisions regarding protests or any other matter or discrepancy will be decided upon by a meeting of all team representatives, as listed on the cover page. The scheduling of any meeting will be the responsibility of the team submitting said protest or matter of discussion. (all team Reps must be contacted and advised of said meeting date and time.)

Umpire Fees = $35.00 / game

Other
-
Any team who recieves more than 1 fine for drinking alcohol on the diamond property will be subject to immediate removal from the league.
